Modeling of the HiTech composite snow protection fence structure was carried out in the program “ABAQUS/Standard”. The following checks were performed in the study: the first one - resistance of sections to longitudinal and bending force taking into account stability checks of parts of the section (local stability); the second one - resistance of individual elements to longitudinal and bending force (stability checks from longitudinal bending, bending-torsional stability checks of individual elements between nodes). The aim of the research is to develop the design of HiTech snow protection fence, X-shaped posts with articulated connection and inclined arrangement of barrier grids with through holes, which should provide additional turbulence of snow-wind flow and thus increased efficiency of the fence at its high lumen of 60-70%. On the basis of spatial finite element computational model, the strength calculation of X-shaped composite post and barrier grids was performed. The calculation was performed for two variants: the first - without taking ice into account, when the structure has a maximum lumen of about 70% and the second - with taking into account the maximum icing, when the lumen decreases to 28-30%. HiTech snow barriers were installed in Akmola region of the Republic of Kazakhstan on a snow-bearing section of a highway (span lengths - 1.854 and 2.462 m) to test the effectiveness (snow retention) and stability of the developed design against ice and wind loads. It is necessary to note the recommendatory nature of the obtained values of bearing capacity due to the simplified representation of the impact of snow-wind flow on the elements of the snow protection fence in the calculation model, the non-linearity of the properties of the materials used and the complexity of the dynamic behavior of the structure in practice. To verify the reliability of the obtained values it is necessary to carry out periodic monitoring of the installed pilot line of the HiTech snow protection fence.
